China is in a unique position to change the course of global emissions. But ever since the introduction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), there have been concerns about its potential impact on climate change. What is China’s view on climate change and environmental protection?
How does this relate to other actors? In the first interview of the Global China Series, Senior Research Fellow Karl Hallding at the Swedish Environment Institute, discusses China’s role in fighting climate change in relation to the Belt and Road Initiative, the Paris Agreement and prominent actors.
'The Global China Interview Series’ is UI’s new series of films on China’s global ambitions. It is done in cooperation with Stockholm Observatory for Global China and is produced by Fjärde Uppgiften. In six episodes, different perspectives are explained through interviews and infographics by researchers and experts. Learn more about the project here: www.ui.se/english/research/asia/sogc/
