Freerunning's longest-running contest, Red Bull Art of Motion, took place on June 9–12 with an all-new venue and a new multi-day contest format that's going to reshape freerunning contests for the future.
The entire Greek island of Astypalea was be taken over for the contest and 16 of the world's best athletes, competing for the most prestigious title in freerunning. They were challenged to compete in three competitions - the Explorative Challenge, Spot Challenge and Live Challenge.
- Explorative Challenge: Athletes were given access to the whole Island and required to submit 3 videos showcasing their best moves. One of those videos was submitted for the People’s Choice award.
- Spot Challenge: Athletes were paired with a creator and asked to submit one video that was judged on creativity, difficulty, execution, flow and overall, for the creative value of the video itself.
- Live Challenge: a 'combo-style' competition, where all finalists will throw down short but powerful combos or massive single moves, with a maximum time limit of 10 seconds
