At long last, the much anticipated bipartisan Senate border bill is expected to be released this week. The deal, worked out by Senators James Lankford, Chris Murphy and Kyrsten Sinema would require the Department of Homeland Security to nearly shut down the border if migrant crossings increase above 5,000 per day on any given week or if average daily encounters reach a 4,000-a-day threshold in a one-week span. The legislation simultaneously provides funding for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, but Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, at the urging of former President Donald Trump and other Republican Leadership, says the deal is all but dead if brought to the House floor. Senior Fellow at the Common Sense Society, Chris Bedford, joins to share whether it would be a good idea or bad idea on the Republican side to reject the legislation if it passes. Bedford discusses whether he thinks Democrats are legislating in good faith or simply pushing through a bill. Regarding the actual stipulations in the bill, Bedford tells us whether he thinks it will make an impact on securing our border and stemming illegal immigration.
