Tapovan
Tapovan is basically a chain of caves and hills, located on the outskirts of Deoghar city.
Tapovan is a major attraction for both tourists and pilgrims due to its natural beauty and spiritual significance.
Tapovan Caves and Hills, Deoghar:-
Tapovan Hill is located 10 km away from Deoghar city. It was a meditation place (Tapobhoomi) for yogis and sages in olden days.
Tapovan hill is another exciting place near Deoghar. Tapovan hills are smaller in height and size than Trikut hill but it is famous for its natural and spiritual beauty.
Tapovan is a trekking and picnic spot for the locals. You can reach the top of the hill within 15 minutes by climbing the stairs. As you climb the stairs, you will see many temples and caves at different heights on the Tapovan mountain. At the top of the hill, you can see natural panoramic views.
Tapovan Temple:-
The cultural relevance of Tapovan mountain is found in Hindu religious texts. There is a temple of Shiva here called Taponath Mahadev Temple. In one of the caves, Shivlinga is installed, and it is said that Sage Valmiki came here to do penance.
It is also believed that Shri Balanand Brahmachari attained Siddhi here and Mohananand Brahmachari, a disciple of Shri Balanand Brahmachari, also used to come here to do penance.
History of Tapovan:-
It is also believed that Ravana came here for meditation and when he was doing penance, the gods instructed Pawan Putra Hanuman to break Ravana's meditation. Hanuman jumped on the mountain and broke the rocks of the hill.
There is a Hanuman temple in the middle of that stone crack. On the inner surface of the crack, you can see a picture of Hanuman. The ancient tradition of hoisting the flag on the occasion of Ram Navami here continues till date.
There is a small pond (water body) below the hill, which is called Sita Kund. This is a holy water pond. It is said that Mother Sita used to bathe here.

Some Useful Tips:-
• Beware of monkeys. They may snatch your small items like glasses, camera, mobile, or any food items.
• Wear comfortable shoes. This will help you climb the hill by stairs.
• Take special care of children. There are a lot of uneven places on the mountain, and children may fall.
• Carry enough water and snacks.
• Best time to visit Tapovan is from 9 am to 6 pm (better before sunset)
