Signs / symptoms:
Thin, off-white discharge with fishy odor
No vaginal inflammation
Laboratory findings:
pH over 4.5
Clue cells
Positive whiff test (amine odor with potassium hydroxide)
Treatment: Metronidazole or clindamycin
Complications:
↑ Risk of preterm birth
↑ Risk for acquisition of HIV, herpes simplex virus type 2, gonorrhea, Chlamydia & Trichomonas infections
