Rice is said to be at the ‘heading’ stage when the panicle is fully visible. Flowering begins a day after heading has completed. As the flowers open they shed their pollen on each other so that pollination can occur. Flowering can continue for about 7 days.
Generally, flowering in paddy rice occurs by anther extrusion between the opening and closing of the spikelet. Active flowering generally lasts for 1–2.5 h daily during the reproductive phase, and it is very sensitive to external environmental factors such as temperature, solar radiation, etc.
