While Ngamba Island isn’t a permanent home for the chimpanzees, it will take a long time for them to be relocated to the wilderness. The sanctuary, which seats on an Island measuring 100 acres is home to 49 chimpanzees. Despite the fact that the sanctuary seems big, Conservationists believe it cannot accommodate more Chimpanzees. In this regard, the island administers contraceptives to female chimps to prevent them from conceiving and adding onto the existing numbers.
