Had a mishap happen when separating my blue java pups.
As subscribers to my channel you may know, that I have the genuine Blue Java Banana Plants, they type with the knuckles on the hands.
if you can recall I cut the corms and propagated them from sections of the corm. they are now full grown and sprouting new pups.
I started Separating and Potting my Blue Java Banana Plant Suckers / Pups.
I had a viewer comment on using a chopping blade instead of a shovel. so here it goes.
ANSWER:
I have hundreds of Banana plants that give off hundreds of suckers each year, so I have lots of work in keeping up with separating them.
I have used several different shovels in some of my videos, and even the smaller ones which are the pipe trench shovels. the blades are still not as narrow as the choppers are. chipping blades are two-three inches wide and very sharp
So when using a narrow shovel you tend to miss and cut the sucker corn more often than not. so I like to remove the compost and see how many suckers they are popping out of the parent plant below the surface and where the suckers are connecting to the parent plants.
in this video, you will see that there were around five suckers within two inches of each other and even below each other, a shovel would have cut below the surface and would have cut some of the in half.
So with that said, I removed them all without cutting any of the corms in half.
