This video is showing a "Do It Yourself" project on animated art of a nautical chart.
A nautical chart is a graphic representation of a maritime area and adjacent coastal regions. It shows depths of water and heights of land (topographic map), natural features of the seabed, details of the coastline, navigational hazards, locations of natural and human-made aids to navigation as buoys, lights and lighthouses. The lights have a dedicated blink pattern and color, which allows the identification while being on a see vessel.
For this projected I have animated the nautical lights to represent the light pattern indicated on the chart. The electrical circuit and LED's to illuminate the lights are housed in a deep picture frame. I use slim light fibers to feed the lights from a white LED to the outlet in the nautical chart. The color (red/green) is defined by a tiny blob of glass paint on the front side of the chart.
For the light timing control I use a MSP430F2012 micro controller, which is driving transistor based constant current sources.
