After exploring the city for a few hours on our first day in Jakarta, we went to the grand mosque of Indonesia: the istiqlal mosque in Jakarta! Its so massive with space for thousands of devotees to come and pray! After that we went to the Monas or Monumen Nasional or the National Monument which was built to commemorate the resistance and struggle of the Indonesian people in independence from Dutch colonial government. Its a long obelisk with a huge underground museum amidst gardens in the centre of the city!
