STORYLINE:
Rome has switched on its Christmas decorations in the central shopping area of the Italian capital, amidst the construction sites crowding its streets.
Due to the building of a new metro station in Piazza Venezia the traditional Christmas tree that used to be there has been moved to Piazza Del Popolo since last year.
The construction sites have not stopped hundreds of tourists and locals from enjoying the decorations just days before the festivities, while shopping for Christmas presents.
Among the decorated areas of the city are the central Via del Corso and Via dei Condotti, the Spanish Steps with Christmas ornaments provided by the luxury maison Bulgari and St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, where a Christmas tree over 30 metres high and a nativity scene adorn the square.
