🔥Got in a great workout with Farooq Al-SaÏdDirector of Operations of @1 Hood Media. 1 Hood Media “The Vanguard of Arts and Education” is a 1-of-a-kind arts and education collective using arts & activism “artstivism” to bring change.

Internationally connected, they study & teach media literacy to tell stories as they are. Through the lens of hip-hip, they engage, entertain, and educate people on important topics for oppressed people. They provide a safe space for youth to learn, grow, and tell their stories. 🧠

During Covid-19 shutdowns, they were able to partner and mobilize to attain resources for black Pittsburgh residents who have been vulnerable (read how racism is a public health crisis - old policies die slow in effect IF they are even reformed on paper):
📌they acquired and distributed over 2000 KN95 masks to frontline workers
📌the created the “What Does Black Pittsburgh Need to Know About Covid-19” with epidemiologists, professors, experts, etc hosted on Facebook every Tuesday afternoon
📢They support Black Young & Educated who is a major organizer of protests in Pgh - run by youth. Check them out!
