Has our desire to be independent become the double-edged sword of our time? Loneliness and disconnection are widespread within our community, and with some simple yet profound actions we can transform the structure of society. Ben articulates how trusting and relying on other people creates a life changing safety net for people who are experiencing hardship and will improve life outcomes for the entire community. Our neighbourhoods have the opportunity to engage in meaningful change to increase life expectancy, social cohesion, and joy! The experience of trusting others releases oxytocin. This change within our body increases our readiness to trust others, creating bonds and improving health outcomes. Life expectancy is improved with these connections. Mirroring the experience of forests around the world, when we rely on each other for protection, support, and joy, our lives are greatly improved and strengthened. By focusing on togetherness rather than individualism, we discover that we ourselves are seen in a more positive light than we realise. It’s here we discover we are capable of existing in a way which is positive and authentic. As a leader in the social services sector, Ben is highly experienced in understanding how community development principles are lived out effectively in communities. Ben aligns purpose with practice, both with people and organisations, and collaborates to achieve outcomes with joy and hope. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
