It is bronchospasms that cause breathing difficulties. It is usually caused by an allergic reaction or other forms of hypersensitivity. It's the most common chronic disease in children. Make sure to ask your client about any allergens before the session begins. Clients may benefit from positions that will help them breathe easier. Such as using a wedge while supine.
2:29 Bronchitis
It is inflammation of the bronchial mucosa & mucus hypersecretion. Acute bronchotis typically follows a viral upper respiratory tract infection. Chronic bronchitis is caused by airborne irritants such as cigarrete smoke & air pollutants. Massage is contraindicated if the client has acute bronchitis & fever. You must wait at least 24 hours after fever is gone. If client has chronic bronchotis make sure you accomodate the position to help them breathe better.

it is acute inflammation of the upper respiratory tract mucosa. It is highly contagious. You must wait until client is recovered.
4:12 Emphysema
is permanent enlargement of the lower airways & destruction of alveolar walls. Obstruction results from destroyed lung tissue rather than inflammation as seen in the asthma & chronic bronchitis. Ask client about medications they take & have inhaler handy. Client may benefit from using a wedge (incline position) while supine & sideline position.

it is hypersensitivy of the nasal mucosa to allergens usually plant pollens. It usually occurs annually. During intake ask your client if they carry an epipen & what they are allergic to & accomodate accordingly.
6:34 Influenza
is an acute highly contagious viral infection of the upper respiratory tract. It can extend into the lower tract. Flu symptoms usually last 1 week to 10 days. Massage is contraindicated until client is no longer contagious.
7:47 Pneumonia
is an infection or inflammation of the lungs. It is usually preceded by the common cold or influenza. It is a leading cause of death in children. Massage is contraindicated until client is recovered.
8:49 Sinusitis
is an acute or chronic inflammation of the muosa that line the paranasal sinuses. Most cases are acute & are resolved whithin 4 weeks. Chronic sinusitis is recurring & usually a complication of upper respiratory Infections. Massage is contraindicated during acute episodes. You must wait at least 24 hrs after fever has cleared. For Chronic sinusitis clients may benefit from a wedge while supine and avoid prone position.
