Croatia, Republic of Croatia (Republika Hrvatska) is a country in Southeastern Europe and Borders Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro. And it also borders the Adriatic Sea of the Mediterranean Sea. Croatia has a population of 4 million people and Zagreb is its capital. Croatian is its language. Government type: Democracy. National motto: 'Our beautiful homeland'. Kuna is its currency, which is going to change on 1st of January 2023. Religion: mainly Christians (86% of all Croatians are Roman Catholics). National Flag: red, white and blue stripes with the checkerboard coat of arms in the middle. National Symbols: Marten (national animal), iris (national flower) and oak (national tree). National Anthem: The Croatian anthem is called 'Our Beautiful Homeland' (Lijepa naša domovino). National Day: 8 October (Independence Day). President: Zoran Milanović (elected in January 2020).
History: The first multiparty elections were held in 1990, Croatia declared independence in 1991, and Yugoslavia split into six different countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and Macedonia. Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, but is only partially recognized as an independent state. Croatia is going to be part of European Union and the Schengen from the 1st of January 2023.
