The 143-Year-Old Minnesund Bridge in Norway Says Goodbye.
On October 6, 2023, history was made as the 143-year-old Minnesund Bridge in Norway saw its final traffic day.
This iconic bridge on the main railway line between Oslo and Hamar was built in 1879 and opened for use in 1880.
Fast forward to 2023, and a state-of-the-art high-speed railway and brand-new bridge were ready to replace the aging structure, which had become notorious for its sharp curves and slow speed limits, creating a major traffic bottleneck.
In a fitting tribute, the Norwegian Railway Museum marked the bridge's farewell with a special train ride featuring the EL 13 2142 locomotive, and their vintage Steel Carriage train.
But this isn't the end for the historic bridge—plans are already in place to preserve it and transform it into a scenic bicycle path for future generations to enjoy.
A piece of history repurposed for the future!
