Top 10 Most Strangest Holes on Earth:
10. Udachnaya Pipe: Udachnaya was discovered on June 15, 1955. It is more than 600 metres (1,970 ft) deep, making it the third deepest open-pit mine in the world. The mine has estimated reserves of 225.8 million carats of diamonds.
9. Diavik Mine: It is a diamond mine in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Producing approximately 7 million carats 1,400 kgs of diamonds annually. It is on a 20 square kilometer island.
8. Chuquicamata: It is the largest open pit copper mine in the world. It is situated at 2,850 m (9,350 ft) above sea level. Annual production is 5,00,000 Tons. Its depth of 850 metres (2,790 ft) makes it the second deepest open-pit mine in the world.
7. Sinkhole: It was a disaster in which an area approximately 65 ft (20 m) across and 300 ft (90 m) deep collapsed in Guatemala City's Zona 2. The sinkhole occurred for a combination of reasons, including Tropical Storm Agatha, the Pacaya Volcano eruption, and leakage from sewer pipes.
6. Mirny Diamond Mine: It is a former open pit diamond mine, now inactive, located in Mirny, Eastern Siberia. The mine is 525 meters (1,722 ft) deep (4th in the world) and has a diameter of 1,200 m (3,900 ft) and is the second largest excavated hole in the world.
5. Great Blue Hole: Great Blue Hole is a giant submarine sinkhole off the coast of Belize. The hole is circular in shape, over 300 m (984 ft) across and 124 m (407 ft) deep. It was formed during several episodes of quaternary glaciation when sea levels were much lower.
4. Darvaza Gas Crater: It is a natural gas field in Derweze, Turkmenistan, that collapsed into an underground cavern in 1971, becoming a natural gas crater. Geologists set it on fire to prevent the spread of methane gas, and it has been burning continuously since then. The diameter of the crater is 69 metres (226 ft), and its depth is 30 metres (98 ft).
3. Kimberley Diamond Mine: It is found in South Africa and holds the title of the largest hole in the world that is man made though it is disputed. Between 1866 and 1914, a group of 50000 miners mined using shovels and picks and were able to get 2,722 kg of diamonds. It has a surface of 42 acres and it is 463 meters wide. It has a depth of 215 meters.
2. Monticello Dam: This dam was constructed between 1953 and 1957. It has a structural height of 93 meters and a crest length of 312 meters. It contains 249, 000 cubic meters of concrete. The water from the reservoir goes to the North Bay area in San Francisco.
1. Bingham Canyon Mine: It is the largest man made excavation in the world. The mine has been in production since 1906, and has resulted in the creation of a pit over 0.6 miles (970 m) deep, 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and covering 1,900 acres.
