Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav tabled the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 in the Lok Sabha on August 3. The bill is being massively criticied. The bill says that all companies have to inform citizens if their data is being used and where it is being used. However, in some instances, the government can be exempt from the provisions of the bill. This has sparked a debate on the bill being against the Right To Information Act and that it favours the government.
