STORYLINE:
German police detained a number of protesters on the road between Rostock and Bad Doberan on Thursday morning one day into the Group of Eight (G-8) summit being held nearby.
AP Television filmed a number of protestors being arrested and several having their hands tied with riot cuffs.
Protesters erected a blockade on the road using tree trunks as obstacles before conducting a sit down protest.
Police cleared the trees and searched the protesters before detaining them without arrest.
On Wednesday night hundreds of protesters camped down on one of the roads leading to Germany's G8 summit in Heiligendamm, as dozens of riot police stationed themselves nearby.
Earlier on Wednesday, thousands of protesters had streamed across fields and through forests, some hurling stones and sparring with riot police, others throwing themselves down on roads and railways tracks in a bid to disrupt the summit.
An estimated 10-thousand protesters swarmed the area, ignoring a ban to stay at least six kilometres (3.7 miles) from the barbed-wire fence protecting the summit site, police said.
More than 130 people were arrested and at least eight officers were slightly injured, police said.
Germany is spending $124.32 million (m) US dollars on the summit and has deployed 16-thousand police officers, along with scores of armoured personnel carriers, trucks with water-cannons atop and other support vehicles.
