In early October, Northrop Grumman unveiled its next generation M230LF Dual-Feed Bushmaster Chain Gun, marking a significant upgrade to its iconic weapon. Chambered in 30x113mm, the M230LF now features a dual-feed system—the first of its kind in medium-caliber chain guns. This innovation enables operators to quickly switch between two types of ammunition, improving versatility and reducing reload time. It’s designed to handle both proximity-fuzed XM1211 rounds for counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) and high-explosive dual-purpose XM1198 rounds for anti-armor roles. Despite the upgrades, the M230LF Dual-Feed maintains a similar weight and shares 60% of components with its single-feed predecessor, ensuring easier maintenance. Northrop Grumman plans live-fire demonstrations in early 2025 to validate its multi-mission capabilities and readiness for deployment. With enhanced flexibility and reliability, the M230LF Dual-Feed is set to play a key role in future combat scenarios.
