Mobile phone footage shows the moment balaclava-wearing armed bikers terrorise a busy market. As horrified shoppers look on, the four bikers brandish a baseball bat and a pair of bolt cutters as they speed around the stalls.
One man appears to be attacked after challenging the gang, shortly before they speed off. The incident took place at Hyde Market in Tameside on Friday afternoon (August 25).
Police have since launched an investigation, and a Section 60 dispersal order is currently in place until 3.40pm today, with police stepping up patrols in the area over the weekend.
In the video, which has been widely shared on social media, a man in blue carrying a golf club appears to challenge the bikers.
As he does shouts of 'Come on then. F****** come on then' can be heard. A short time later four masked men on two motorbikes ride across the square.
They appear to be carrying a bat and pair of bolt cutters. As horrified shoppers watch on they ride around the market stalls yelling abuse.
Two of the bikers then run across the market square carrying the weapons. As they do so a second man is briefly attacked after appearing to challenge them. The bikers then ride off.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers responded to reports of several people on motorbikes causing trouble in Hyde town centre at around 1:20pm on Friday 25 August 2023.
"No injuries were reported and the incident is being investigated by officers in Tameside. A Section 60 dispersal order is in place until 3:40pm today and there will be extra patrols in the area this weekend."
