In early 2023, we were given the opportunity to design a spiritual and cultural hub—renovating a Jumma mosque, where congregational Friday prayers (Jumma prayers) are held. We felt humbled by the chance to collaborate closely with the community. A committee was formed by the community for the purpose of exchanging dialogues.

Engaging in dialogue with diverse stakeholders allowed us to approach the project with fresh perspectives, challenging our preconceptions, and enriching our understanding of what the community needs. This collaboration ensured that the mosque reflected their identity and values, creating a space they could truly call their own.

They wanted the mosque to play a multifaceted role in enriching the lives of community members, promoting social cohesion, and contributing to the overall well-being of society. It was imperative to integrate their identity into the architecture of the building. Inspired by elements of traditional Islamic architecture—domes and minarets, symbolizing unity, transcendence, and the call to prayer. These architectural features serve as focal points for spiritual reflection and community identity, guiding worshippers towards the sacred space.

Our shared experience of designing this mosque was one of profound growth, learning, and camaraderie. It exemplified the transformative power of architecture to bring people together, inspire meaningful dialogue, and shape the built environment in ways that reflect and celebrate the richness of human experience.
