Wanted to do this video for a long time, pretty basic but we hope it helps.
Sand to 240 before applying the first coat. Round off the edges just a little, this will allow the resin to flow over the edge and underneath before dripping off leaving you with nice rounded glossy corners.
In a future video we will cover sanding in more detail but we start with 60 or 80grit to get our piece flat, then go to a 120 , then 240. An orbital sander with a minimum of 350watts is recommended.
You Don’t Need to sand between coats if you apply the next coat the following day. But If you can’t get back to it within 24 hours give it a light sand with 240 grit and clean thoroughly with methylated spirits. Hand sand the edges and corners to avoid breaking through to the timber.
The top coat has about 45 minutes before it loses its ability to self-level. Until the you can put your finger in it , pick bugs out of it etc. if you spray it with methylated spirits after this you may come back to a slightly dimpled surface the next day
Wait 3 days before sanding the drips off the underside, even though the resin is hard enough for sanding after 36 hours, the full cure actually takes 7 days. There is still enough give 2 days later that the vibration of a sander combined with downward pressure will mark the surface.
