Barbuda and Antigua is a two-island nation in the West Indies. They are separated by thirty-nine miles of water dividing the Atlantic Ocean from the Caribbean Sea. Antigua is a beautiful island with mountains and city life, whereas Barbuda is a flat desert island with secluded beaches with rustic pink sand beaches.
On the first of February, I left the Bahamas and headed to Barbuda for an event at the Barbuda Ocean Club. It is a private resort on the southern tip of the island that is currently under development. The whole PLH (Peace Love & Happiness) crew put on the most incredible event for the small group of guests interested in buying there.
They put on a freestyle kite competition, organized downwinders, had daily yoga, boot camp, boat tours, spearfishing, fishing, paddle boarding, e-foiling, sea bobs, and pretty much any water toy, boat accessory you could imagine. At the awards ceremony, points were given to the people that participated in each of the activities. In the end, the person with the most activities won. That is what these sports are all about, just having fun and enjoying it all. It's really not about the competition, it's about making the most of the experience and participating in the activities with an open mind. You never know until you go, when you go, then you'll know. Try something new and see what you think.
It was so great to see all of the guests and employees having such a great time. The weather was perfect, lots of friendships were made, everyone was safe, and the majority of time was spent of the water.
Andre Philipp came over for the event to film and photograph the weekend. He is such a pleasant guy. So humble and a complete legend. He was focused on his task of documenting the event so we didn't' get to kite together but hge did sneak away for ten minutes and took a rip on the e-foil. I gave him a crash course lesson and within the first minute, he was on his feet foiling off into the distance along the long pink sand beach.
Big thanks to Kevin and Leila for inviting me and putting on such a special event that just so happened to land on my birthday.
What a way to bring in twenty eight!
Cheers,
Blake
