Edge Computing
In this video we will talk about edge computing. I will try to give a brief overview of the concept starting with an introduction and definition of Edge computing. Then I will talk whay we are seeing more edge computing and why edge computing is so important to the technological advancement we see today.
Then I will talk about some real-life applications of edge computing. And I will relate these applications to the whys we discussed earlier.
Lastly, I want to explain what are Edge Data centers. If we are saying that edge is moving the processing power out of the datacenter, then what is edge Datacenter?!
Edge computing is decentralizing the computing, processing and sometimes storage of Data from the data center out to the edge or closer to the edge. In IT the edge device is the terminal connected to the network. Edge computing empowers devices at the edge with processing and storage. This brings computation and data storage closer to the sources of data. This is expected to improve response times and save bandwidth.
Before I dive into the topic of today, I want to bring up AI (artificial intelligence) Big Data, Deep learning, Internet of things (IOT) because all these technologies are related and dependent on each other. We as humans want everything around us to be connected and to be smarter. We want smarter machines and systems that can do the work for us with minimum intervention making our life easier. This human need led to the growth of all these technologies. Having smarter systems and devices requires a lot of data and processing power. The best way to achieve that is by decentralizing the collective processing power. With the growth of IOT we have many devices connected to the internet demanding more processing and bandwidth capacity from the network. Edge computing is the solution. We can keep growing if we equip the edge with the processing and data storage capabilities.
