Hosted by Tanita Lewis, this conversation held at the Solidarity Economy Showcase focused on the solidarity economic thought and practice in Africa.
Looking into the specific historic context of slavery and resource extraction, we will explore movements for economic self determination within the African continent, and how the solidarity economy movement is being utilised as a vehicle to meet community needs.
In this session, we asked what strategies for solidarity can we build to connect these movements across the African continent and Africans in the Diaspora.

About us
Decolonising Economics is a collective led by Nonhlanhla Makuyana (they/them) and Guppi Bola (she/her) committed to building a solidarity economy movement that is rooted in racial justice principles. We do this by:
• Deepening the analysis of our economic and financial systems which are currently rooted in the colonial legacy of maintaining wealth in whiteness.
• Work alongside partners and allies to shift the strategies and practices of the new economy movement in the UK to facilitate a solidarity economy.
• Invest in the leadership of marginalised communities of colour who are organising to towards community ownership of assets, as a strategy for reparations that centres collective healing
