The AISD Forum 🤖 ⋂ 🛡️ (AI, Security & Defense) cordially invites you to a special public presentation by Dr. Romain Chuffart (The Arctic Institute). This event is a part of AISD's Fall '24 series on "Arctic Security".
Date: 20 November 2024
Hosts: Olivia Houck & Phil Tinn
Abstract: As climate interventions become increasingly viable, Arctic sea ice geoengineering raises critical issues for climate security and justice, especially regarding the rights of Indigenous peoples in Arctic governance. This presentation examines the complexities of regulating sea ice geoengineering and the incorporation of emerging technologies into global ocean governance frameworks. To ensure climate security and environmental justice requires a legal and ethical approach that centres Indigenous rights and governance. By drawing on existing legal frameworks for resource management, this presentation highlights pathways to strengthen the protection of Indigenous rights.
