This is how I changed the automatic gearbox oil on my 2002 S60 D5 with the AW55-50SN / AW55-51SN gearbox. It requires an oil meeting JWS3309 specification, so please ensure you use the correct oil for your vehicle.

This method only drains the sump: the entire contents of the gearbox cannot be extracted in this way, only around 1/3.

Regular oil changes are good for the gearbox, just as they are for your engine.
