Welcome to Measuring Paint on Different Cars using a paint depth gauge from Elcometer! I've seen a few times requests for my opinions on the quality, softness, hardness etc of different paint jobs on different cars so every now and then I will start posting some videos of measuring paint on various cars and give my opinions on quality and my experiences detailing them and performing paint correction on cars of many varieties.

In this video using my elcometer paint depth gauge I will talk a bit about the importance of measuring paint before paint correction especially on repainted vehicles and some newer cars like Tesla vehicles. I will show you measurements on a datsun 510 race car from Wicked Classic Cars, A fiat Dino, A 2021 Audi RS7, a 2021 Tesla Model Y, an older Tesla Model S, a Hyundai Genesis GV80 and a couple other vehicles. Each of them has readings of various levels, I use the measurement system microns on my gauge although it can measure in MILs as well.

For some reason these types of videos do phenomenal on my TikTok one of them even got over 1.4 million views... If only I could get that many views on YouTube, alas maybe some day.

The Elcometer paint depth gauge can be purchased on amazon. It works on all ferrous and non ferrous metals, it will not work on carbon fiber, plastic, glass, bondo, or fiberglass. It measures primer, paint and clear coat all in one so if it reads 160 microns, that doesnt mean 160 microns of clear coat only, that is everything. If you are a true paint correction specialist or body painter you need to have one of these tools, you should not be touching cars without one.
