Hi parents & teachers! This video shows an alternative to the standard algorithm for long division. We call this method "Big 7" method or strategy because the division bracket is extended to look like a big 7! This is also called Division using Partial Quotients. If your students are struggling with standard long division, this could be a great alternative! Yes, this method does take a little longer to do, but it's well worth it if it eliminates frustration and confusion for students learning to divide. Many of my students find this method easier than remembering when to divide, multiply, and subtract during "traditional" (standard algorithm) long division. Please let me know what you think!
