Police Scotland make a statement on the riot in Dundee last night.

We previously showed louts recklessly throwing fireworks after a bonfire erupted into violence.

There were reports of shop windows being smashed and cars being targeted during the disorder.

Cops dressed in riot gear were spotted forming a row in front of a blazing street fire as they attempted to protect themselves during the tense stand-off.

One officer was injured as a result of the chaos.

Dramatic images taken in the Kirkton area of the city show piles of charred debris still smouldering.
