In the past few years thousands of Dagestanis have left for Syria and Iraq to join ISIS (a terrorist group banned in Russia). Many of them took their wives and children along with them. By different estimates, the number of children taken by their parents from Dagestan to Syria and Iraq is between 200 and a thousand. What happens to the children whose parents have been killed? Often their relatives in the Caucasus are scanning the news, looking for familiar faces from TV reports out of the Middle East. But finding and saving these children is incredibly complicated. The Russian Government has reported that more than 40 children have been returned home from Syria and Iraq.
