(24 Jan 2019) France's economy minister said he understands the UK's "obsession" with Brexit, but for his country the top priority is the "better" integration of Europe.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, Le Maire told reporters: "As far as a Brexit is concerned, it's up to the British people and to the British politicians to decide what they want.
"I want to be very clear there is a deal. This is a fair deal. There is an agreement. This is a fair agreement which paves the way for a fair Brexit," said Le Maire.
"And if the British government is asking for some more delay we have to clearly understand what for."
He also offered praise to EU chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, for negotiating the agreement.
Britain's departure is set for March 29. Speculation has grown the British government may seek a delay since Parliament rejected Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit deal with the EU.
