The 64th Miss World pageant will be held in the capital on Sunday. Glamorous contestants from 120 different countries will be strutting their stuff at the ExCel Centre.
As a Cambridge-educated student doctor, Carina Tyrrel is far from just a pretty face. She sat down with Louise Scodie to discuss why she got involved in the competition and how she hopes to use it
She considers herself as an ambassador of both the country and the competition. When quizzed on the feminist issues surrounding a beauty patent, she said, “Miss World is so much more than bikinis” and said she sees nothing wrong with the optional bikini round.
Ms Tyrrel says the main reason she entered the competition was her humanitarian work and the global platform the competition offers which allows her to take her work further. She explains “Beauty with a Purpose”, the charity behind the competition.
London Live will be broadcasting the event live from 3pm.
