Title: God's Kingdom of Peace
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 65:17-25
Introduction:
Today's Sunday School lesson focuses on the beautiful prophecy in Isaiah 65:17-25. This scripture paints a vivid picture of what God has in store for His people in His Kingdom of Peace. Through the lens of Isaiah, we are allowed a glimpse into a world restored to the glory and harmony initially intended by God.
The New Heavens and New Earth:
In verses 17-19, Isaiah reveals God’s promise to create "new heavens and a new earth." This new creation will be so magnificent that the former hardships and pain will not be remembered or brought to mind. God promises joy and gladness as the voices of His people resound in thanksgiving and celebration in Jerusalem, a symbol of the dwelling place of God.
God’s Caring Touch:
In verses 20-23, Isaiah describes the profound changes that will take place in this new creation. There will be no more infants who live just a few days, nor elderly people who do not live to enjoy a whole life. People will build and inhabit houses, plant vineyards, and eat fruit. No longer will they build for others to inhabit or plant for others to eat. The work of their hands and the fruit of their labors will be blessed by God. This illustrates God’s caring touch in His Kingdom, where everyone reaps the benefits of their efforts, and life is free from the frustrations and injustices that are often experienced in the current world.
Harmony with Creation:
In verses 24-25, Isaiah portrays a world in which the natural order is in harmony, where predatory animals and their prey coexist peacefully. The wolf, the lamb, the lion, and the ox are depicted as living together without harm. This symbolizes peace in the animal kingdom and peace and harmony among nations and people in God's Kingdom.
Conclusion:
Isaiah 65:17-25 invites us to look forward with hope to God’s Kingdom of Peace. A place where pain and sorrow are forgotten, where joy and gladness reign, where people live fulfilled lives, and where creation itself is in perfect harmony. This prophecy motivates us to live righteous lives today in anticipation of the coming Kingdom and to strive to bring peace and justice to our present world as we reflect God's heavenly Kingdom here on earth.
