Things at the FIA have been rocky for a while now. The recent uproar over drivers swearing climaxed with the Grand Prix Drivers Association publicly confronting the FIA, a moment of incredible embarrassment for F1’s governing body. As is the way with the FIA though, they are only one left turn from another controversy and this week's mess has been caused by a surprising retirement by race director Niels Wittich. Or was he fired? As far as the FIA is concerned, they can tell the story they want but today, I’ll try to unpick it, so don’t go anywhere.
