replace 10 years old, 161k battery in my VW UP!

replacing the battery in my volkswagen up for the first time. its 10 years old and the car has now accumulated 161k miles. with no previous service history, i think its safe to say that the battery probably has never been replaced before. the battery stopped holding charge and would need to be jumpstarted for it to start. car wouldnt start and so ive made this simple diy how to video to replace the old battery.

Volkswagen Up - Seat Mii - Skoda Citigo


a very simple install video, remove the negative and positive terminals (10mm nuts), unclip the wiring (just pulls off), remove the battery clamp (13mm bolt), undo the battery wires on top with a 10mm covered by the flap, unclip the wire on the negative terminal and and the old battery should lift up and out!. the replacement battery should fit in the same location, if it doesnt then the battery you have got is the wrong battery. be sure to position so the positive and negative terminals are in the same position as before. negative (-) towards the bulk head and positive (+) facing the front of the car. tighten the terminal connectors back in place, and reconnect the cables as per the reverse of removing the battery.

should take 10 mins all in all, very quick easy to do job, just need a 10mm socket, 13mm socket and some extensions and can do this yourself!

the non S/S cars have a smaller battery i believe, and can be picked up much cheaper!



the Volkswagen up is the same car as the Seat Mii and the Skoda citigo so same principles will apply!
