Shadow minister Mel Stride has told Sky News the evidence against Labour MP Mike Amesbury is "extremely compelling".

The Runcorn and Helsby MP had the whip withdrawn after footage emerged at the weekend of him punching a man to the floor.

Police are investigating the incident.
