(20 Oct 2000) English/Nat
Greek troops have landed on Turkish soil for the first time in 22 years as part of a major NATO exercise in the Aegean.
21-thousand troops from the United States, Britain, Germany, Spain and Italy are also taking part in NATO operation code named "Destined Glory 2000".
Greece's participation is seen as a sign of warming relations with former enemy Turkey.
A 127-strong mechanised amphibious Greek company carried out a tactical landing at Saros Bay, northwestern Turkey.
The landing is part of massive land, sea and air exercises all along the Turkish coast.
Destined Glory started on the 9th of Oct and will finish next week on the 25th.
