The world faces an unprecedented flow of migrants. One out of every 113 people on earth is an asylum seeker, internally displaced person or a refugee, according to the United Nations. Europe has a major role to play in meeting this challenge, as the EU is the biggest donor of humanitarian and development aid in the world. But development aid specialists suggest that, so far, EU aid has not been an effective tool in stemming the global flow of migrants.
And yet, European governments keep saying that the way to deal with this issue is to work with developing countries and make sure that their populations have a future within those countries.
