In order to get NFS III to work on vista, right click on the application, select properties, go to the compatibility tab, then check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) And make sure you hit apply or ok afterward. The game may or may not run, and if it does it may be temperamental. I had to change the 3d device setup to get the game to run. Beware there has been concerns as well about security gaps resulting from this compatibility program so make sure your security systems remain top notch.
