Rasam is packed with anti-inflammatory spices and herbs to boost immunity, fight infection, and inflammation and keep away the cold, cough and throat soreness. So, if you are feeling groggy, dull, congestion and throat pain from cold and flu try this easy and effective traditional homestyle remedy.
Serving - 4
Ingredients:
1) Cumin Seeds
2) Black Pepper
3) 1 Green Chilli
4) 6 Garlic cloves
5) 2 Inch Ginger
6) Few Sprigs of Curry Leaves
7) 1 Tsp Coconut Oil
8) ½ Tsp Hing
9) 1 Tsp Methi Seeds
10) 1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
11) 2 Dry Red Chilli
12) 1 cup Tomato Puree
13) 2-3 Tbsp Tamarind Extract
14) Salt as per taste
15) Handful of Coriander Leaves
16) 1 Tsp jaggery powder
17) 2-3 Cups Plain Water or add as required
Method:
In a mortar and pestle crush cumin and black pepper. Remove in a separate bowl.
Prepare a coarse paste of ginger, green chilli, garlic and curry leaves.
Heat oil in a pan. Add hing, methi seeds, mustard seeds, dry red chilli and let them crackle.
Add crushed spices and ginger garlic paste to it. Saute for a few minutes.
Then add tomato puree and mix well.
Add tamarind extract and salt. Stir well for a few minutes and let it boil on a high flame.
Reduce the flame and add chopped coriander leaves, water and jaggery powder. Stir well.
Let it simmer for 2 minutes on low flame.
Turn off the flame and cover with the lid. Let it sit for about 2 minutes and serve hot to enjoy as an immune-boosting soup.
