There is a significant overrepresentation of acquired brain injury within the criminal justice system. In this webinar, Dr Claire Williams (Associate Professor of Psychology) discusses how individuals with a traumatic brain injury may be perceived and evaluated in the criminal justice system. She presents the outcomes from a series of studies exploring traumatic brain injury in the context of the Magistrates Court, including the effects of injury presentation on responsive sentencing recommendations, and how an absence of contextual information about the effects of traumatic brain injury may mean that legal decision makers are unable to recognise and adjust for the ongoing effects of traumatic brain injury on an individual’s behaviour.
