Warning !
Concentrate Sulfuric acid is corrosive. Both Acetaldehyde and Ethanol are flammable. Potassium dichromate is toxic. Wear gloves when handling them.
In here what I did is Ethanol reacts with acidified potassium dichromate. Dichromate ions in acidic medium is very strong oxidizer like permanganate. Then ethanol will oxidize to ethanal. Chromium is in +6 state in potassium dichromate. During the reaction it reduces to +3 state. However, Acetaldehyde has a low boiling point of 21 C. Therefore it can be distilled by very simple distillation.
In future I will use for make several videos such as identifying aldehydes and ketones, fehlings test, silver mirror test etc.
