Throughout its history, Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies has prepared students to meet the demands of a changing economy and society.
The story begins in 1954 when Georgetown formalized year-round education. Wartime had dramatically shortened academic schedules and students were looking to complete their degrees in less time.
In 1970, SCS introduced more than 80 professional development courses since students sought courses that could help them understand their rapidly changing world.
In 1974, SCS launched the first degree programs in Liberal Studies, allowing working adults a flexible Bachelor's completion program to more deeply explore the humanities.
With the new millennium came rapid changes in technology that affected the ways people lived and worked. SCS then introduced professional certificates and custom education programs.
In 2007, SCS introduced its first Master of Professional Studies degree programs, which provided flexible-part-time education that combines focused study with industry-specific skills.
Then in 2015, SCS launched online formats for its Technology Management, Real Estate and Sports Industry Management master's programs.
