In this video, we find the resultant force value, location angle, and direction from the given component vectors. This problem is resolving 2 component forces to make on final combined resultant vector via the Parallelogram Rule.
Problem statement:
The two forces P and Q act on bolt A. Determine their resultant
Problem walkthrough steps:
- Draw a quick free body diagram
- Form a parallelogram by copying and pasting the component forces
- Draw in the resultant from corner to corner
-Calculate the angle opposite the resultant force
-Use the law of cosines to find the value of the resultant
-Use the law of sines to find the angle of the resultant off of one of the components
-Use this angle to find the resultant angle off of the x-axis
