Of all the big PC releases during the late 90s, Heretic II is probably the only one I haven't returned to even once since my first and only playthrough in 1998. This is not because I haven't wanted to experience Raven's slightly forgotten third-person action adventure again, but rather due to the fact that H2 still hasn't been re-released on GOG or similar platforms and can be somewhat difficult to install on modern systems.
Now that I've finally got Heretic II up and running again, it's really nice to rediscover its fast-paced combat and exploration. I thought the controls were going to be be rather rigid by modern standards, but moving Corvus around feels quite good. While I ultimately prefer the first entry in the series, this quirky little sequel remains one of the more memorable uses of the Quake 2 engine.
