Saudi Arabia hopes that negotiations to extend Syria's ceasefire agreement to cover the city of Aleppo can become a starting point for a new round of peace talks. Speaking outside of the meetings in Geneva, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, Adel Al-Jubeir, repeated that Riyadh sees no political role for President Bashar al-Assad after the war. That was a key hurdle during previous peace talks.
