The film was based on the drama written by poet Ljubomir Simović. Although it depicts the historical Battle of Kosovo between Medieval Serbia and the Ottoman Empire which took place on June 15 (according to the Julian calendar, June 28 by the Gregorian calendar) in a field about 5 kilometers northwest of Pristina.
Historic events, such as the Battle of Kosovo in the 14th century play a major role in the development of the Serbian epics. This is great,great movie something like Braveheart with Mel Gibson.
This is the defeat by the Ottoman Muslim Turks that is still celebrated by Serbs today, and helps explain their strongly negative attitude to ethnic Albanians and Bosnian Muslims.
