Next stop for the @club100 circus was @llandowcircuit9957 in south Wales. Probably one of the longest journeys for most people, but still a very well attended race weekend. Happily, I managed to make my second A final finishing 15th out of 26. Prior to this I recorded p4,5&6 in my heats. A successful day on track but lots of talk about driving standards. A brief summary of my views below, feel free to start a constructive conversation in the comments.
Time Stamps
Start - 0:00

Heat 2 - 8:48

My thoughts on dealing with driving standards from - 11:30
1. Marshalling is very difficult and they guys won’t get it right all of time so the next time the karts are upgraded could they be fitting with drop down nose cones (nose drops if you hit another kart)? I know they use these in lots of other classes. This way the Marshalls can just concentrate looking at higher levels of recklessness and the smaller stuff would become self policing, dropped nose cone at the end of the race = 3 place deduction, no arguments.
2. The general bollockings don’t work but really specific information/requests do! At Lydd we were asked to go through the chicanes one by one and almost everyone respected this and we had a really great days racing. In my view, every time JV has made specific requests like the example mentioned above people have generally listened.
3. In relation to the last point, the general rules of engagement need clarifying. For example, once you are 50% alongside another kart on an overtake should the kart on the outside yield (I know a track which specifically says this in their briefings). Or are you owed the space once you front axle passes their rear axle like in F1? Or should you be fully alongside? I know the rules are written down re making clean passes, however with so much debate about lunging/turning in on someone, it’s clear we as drivers have too much variance in our understanding and some specifics re kart positioning on an overtake as mentioned above would go along way towards cleaning up the racing. Doesn’t really matter what we come up with, as long as everyone is doing the same thing 🙂
